With classes running from the 27th of January to the 31st of March, kids can learn the basics of sewing and work on their own projects, every Tuesday afternoon during Term 1 2026.

 

Age: 10-17

Cost: $90 for a full term booking (ten sessions total) or $15 per single session

  • Selecting fabrics
  • Parts of the sewing machine
  • Threading the machine
  • Sewing terminology
  • Mastering machine speeds
  • Starting and stopping
  • Securing threads
  • Sewing straight lines
  • Sewing curves
  • Caring for the sewing machine
  • Planning a project

 

 

Kids will be able to choose a sewing project based on their abilities and be guided through it from start to finish over multiple weeks.  They can use textiles from our fabric Op Shop or bring their own, with our teachers helping them select the right materials for the job at hand.

 

Some starting project ideas could include:

  • Custom tote bags
  • Laptop or other device cases
  • Pyjama sets
  • Headbands, scrunchies and other accessories
  • Soft toys
  • Pillows and pillow cases

We love getting ideas from these talented kids, please encourage them to let us know what they would like to learn!

 

Classes will run every Tuesday in Term 1 2026 and start at 3:30pm.  We understand what school traffic can be like, so we will be ready to start once your child has arrived.

Participants are asked to wear closed in shoes and bring their own water bottle.

What is the cost of a class or group?

Prices vary and will be listed in the class information

Do I have to book, or can I just come along?

Classes and workshops must be booked online prior to attendance. The exception to this is the Charity Sewing Group and Knit and Natter Group. Social and Charity meets are designed to help each other and work together. Mentors are available to assist you. However if you require one on one assistance please call 07 3155 3067 or email classes@thesewinglair.com.au prior to attendance so we can book in some time with an appropriately experienced mentor.

Do I need to bring or purchase supplies for my class?

This depends entirely on your booking, all information is provided in the class information.

I’ve booked a class but now can’t attend. Can I get a refund?

We do not routinely offer refunds for classes however at our discretion we may offer you credit for another class at a future time. Cancellations must be received within 48 hours of your booked session. In extreme circumstances you can apply for a refund by emailing classes@thesewinglair.com.au and we will consider your request.

I booked for a workshop but the minimum attendees was not met. Can I get a refund?

In this instance we will offer a class credit or refund (your choice) as we were unable to provide the service you purchased.
