Nobody wants to deal with a busted zipper! Learn to repair zips that can be saved, and how to replace those that can’t.
In this class we will teach you how to sew in zippers, whether you’re interested in invisible zips or making it a feature piece. If you’re sewing your own clothes or wanting to repair an old favourite jacket, we can cover the essentials to get you on track to sewing zippers like a pro.
We will sew some samples for you to keep as your own sewing guide in the future, using a variety of fabrics and zip styles.
What we will cover:
- Sewing zippers in sample fabrics
- Troubleshooting zips with quick repairs
- Hand basting zippers into clothes
- Using the correct sewing machine feet for the job
- Inserting and finishing zippers in clothes (including exposed and invisible zips, and a lap zipper)
What you will need:
- Optional: A project or clothing item needing a zipper, and zipper and thread to match your project
- Optional: if you have your own sewing equipment please feel free to bring it along (e.g.: sewing machine, machine accessories and feet, scissors, pins)
What we provide:
- Zips and fabric to practice
- Small zipper sewing samples we will make together
- All the sewing equipment needed (sewing machines, threads etc.)

Difficulty level: Intermediate Skills
- This is an ideal class for sewists who know their way around a sewing machine
- You are able to thread your sewing machine, change bobbins and troubleshoot basic issues
