It’s time to give your favourite old outfit or new-to-you op shop clothes a new life. In this class, we’ll go over ways you can add some colour and fun to any outfit, using a variety of trims, lace and other haberdashery.
Upcycling clothes is a great way to get more wear out of any outfit and helps use up all that beautiful haberdashery sitting at home!
What we will cover:
- Making your own trims and bias binding
- Sewing trims and ribbons
- Hand and machine sewing lace
- Making simple applique
- Patching and covering damage
What you will need:
- A project or clothing item that you want to embellish (any clothing item will do!)
- Optional: your favourite trims or accessories to add to your project
- Optional: if you have your own sewing equipment please feel free to bring it along (e.g.: sewing machine, machine accessories and feet, scissors, pins)
What we provide:
- Small samples of trims/lace/haberdashery to practice with
- All sewing equipment needed (sewing machines, threads etc.)
- You will have access to our fabric Op Shop to browse and purchase haberdashery to suit your style
General Information:
Difficulty level: Intermediate Skills
- This is an ideal class for sewists who know their way around a sewing machine
- You are able to thread your sewing machine, change bobbins and troubleshoot basic issues
Age: 15+
Participants are asked to please wear enclosed shoes.
